BRIAN TAYLOR, LMSW

EXPERIENCE

I completed my undergraduate internship at the Department of Juvenile Services in Cumberland, MD. I previously worked with Sheppard Pratt, formerly known as Mosaic Community Services, for 7 years as a Residential Rehabilitation Specialist and a PRP Rehabilitation Specialist. I have experience teaching mental health recovery and life skills groups as well as physical wellness groups. I work full-time as a school-based therapist in the Harford County Public School system, which allows me to enhance my networking and gain experiences working with diverse populations. I have a wide range of professional and personal experiences working with children and adults and always embrace the challenge of learning a new skill.

CURRENT TREATMENT FOCUS

I am currently working with mostly teen and adolescent males to assist with life stressors that include interpersonal relationships, complications with family, school transitions, transitions to adulthood, substance use, general anxiety and depression. I have been able to assist with providing feedback for managing desired relationships as my goal is to assist others with managing preferred lifestyles, even if there are barriers that exist. I am open to learning and am willing to meet with any individual that is willing to take time out of their day to meet with me and grow!

TREATMENT APPROACH AND MODALITIES

I like to practice CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, person-centered treatment, and techniques from the Bowenian Family Theory to assist individuals with recognizing the impacts of family systems on overall development. I have been able to practice some trauma-informed care strategies after learning how to process and grow through my own life traumas. I enjoy empowering others to learn how to challenge and prioritize individual thoughts and feelings to enhance qualities of life and decision-making. I am someone who loves to listen, validate, process, and assist others with comfortably gaining the confidence to do the dirty work called self-growth! I like to consider myself "different" as someone you will not typically meet every day!

OUTSIDE OF SESSION

I am a football fanatic! I am a huge Carolina Panthers fan and enjoy spending time watching and learning different things about football! I also enjoy watching baseball, basketball, and hockey. I enjoy shopping for and collecting vinyl records and sports jerseys (especially on sale). I love to explore new areas and learn about other cities and states and of course, try new food! I recently got into Legos and my daughter and partner are teaching me all kinds of new music and dance moves to add to my repertoire! I love a wide range of music and absolutely love creating new memories whenever I am able, especially goofy ones!
