LOUISA CLARKE, LMSW

EXPERIENCE

I received my Masters of Social Work in 2018 from University of Maryland Baltimore. I worked at a community health clinic for my internship and ran groups for those with co-occurring disorders. I segued into school social work after receiving my degree and now am enjoying working as a private practice psychotherapist.  I continue my education through CEUs, perpetual curiosity, and the school of life!

CURRENT TREATMENT FOCUS

Currently I work with clients ages seven years and older. I see adults of all ages helping them through transitions and ruts in their life, stressors of work, family challenges, medical problems, grief- wherever they are at in their journey. Areas of focus include PTSD and trauma, Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Agoraphobia/ Panic Disorders, Adjustment Disorders and grief. I work with overachievers, grievers, and heart-bleeders! All are welcome.

TREATMENT APPROACH AND MODALITIES

My philosophy on therapy is that every client is unique so I tailor my treatment plans to match your needs specifically. Philosophically, I believe labeling emotions and exploring harmful dynamics can bring insights into change and growth needed in clients lives. I also believe in the power of having our stories witnessed alongside a compassionate presence. I use modalities like DBT, ACT, and IFS more frequently in my work with clients. I find coping skills such as reducing people pleasing tendencies, implementing boundaries, reducing the noise of the inner critic, and focusing on strengths rather than failures the most therapeutic for my clients. Generally speaking, I am a soundboard for you who has your absolute best interest in mind. I utilize the therapeutic models of CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Exposure Therapy, IFS, Emotional Regulation, and TF-CBT in my sessions. With past clients I have used a Narrative Therapy approach and Creative Arts to help clients work through their story with coping skills at hand. My goal is to make you feel comfortable opening up, get to know you, and help you find out of the box solutions and changes that feel within reach and are created BY YOU, FOR YOU.

OUTSIDE OF SESSION

In my free time I play guitar and hang out with my family and husband. I own one huge German Sheppard who takes up about all of my free time and I wouldn’t change it for the world! I enjoy reading, connecting with friends, laughing, singing, and traveling!
