MELISSA CHRIST, LMSW

EXPERIENCE

My clinical experience includes providing therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families in school-based settings and outpatient community mental health. I have also worked in inpatient hospital settings, supporting individuals experiencing psychotic disorders, behavioral health crises, and acute health care needs requiring stabilization. In addition to my clinical work, I have more than 25 years of experience working with children in a variety of roles, including as a caregiver, preschool aide, and special education intern. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for child development, family dynamics, and meeting individuals where they are with compassion and understanding.

CURRENT TREATMENT FOCUS

At Well Life, I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, ADHD, self-esteem, and life transitions. I believe therapy should be a place where clients feel safe, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes. I am committed to creating a warm, supportive environment where clients can openly explore their experiences without judgment. I understand that every person’s journey is unique and tailor treatment to each client’s individual strengths, needs, and goals. Whether helping a child build emotional regulation skills, supporting a teenager through life’s challenges, or working with an adult processing trauma or anxiety, I focus on helping clients develop practical coping strategies that promote lasting growth both inside and outside of therapy. I also value partnering with parents and caregivers, recognizing that collaboration often plays an important role in supporting a child’s progress and strengthening the family.

TREATMENT APPROACH AND MODALITIES

My therapeutic approach is client-centered, strength-based, and collaborative. I believe that a trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful growth and healing. I integrate evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), play therapy, and art therapy, tailoring interventions to each client’s developmental level and individual needs. I also incorporate mindfulness techniques such as breathing exercises, grounding strategies, and guided imagery to help clients improve emotional regulation, increase self-awareness, and build healthy coping skills that can be used in everyday life.

OUTSIDE OF SESSION

Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. Much of my free time is spent cheering from the sidelines at my children’s sports and activities. I also enjoy reading mystery novels, going to the movies, practicing yoga, and finding opportunities to recharge with family and friends.
